JOHANNA
TAKALO

Johanna Takalo is a lyric coloratura soprano from Finland. She graduated from the Sibelius Academy opera master’s programme in May 2023. She also has a degree in music pedagogy from Metropolia University of Applied Sciences.

She has experience in performing opera, lied, dance, musical theatre, church music as well as pop music. Her opera roles include Queen of the night in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Adele in J. Strauss II’s Die Fledermaus, Lucy in Menotti’s The Telephone and Lisetta in Rossini’s La Gazzetta among others. She has performed with several Finnish orchestras such as The Guards Band, Oulu Symphony Orchestra and Kuopio Symphony Orchestra.

Johanna has premiered several contemporary operas and enjoys performing this repertoire. She has taken up roles in J. Linkola’s Minnan taivas as well as in three new operas as part of the international project Project Butterfly, which involved works in three countries and three languages. Most recently, she performed the role of Bibi in the Finnish premiere of Ellen Reid’s acclaimed opera p r i s m

She began her musical journey very young. Already as a little girl she wanted to be a singer, dancer and actor. She joined a musical theatre group at the age of 12 and started taking voice lessons a few years later. She also danced classical ballet determinedly until she was about 18 years old. Today she is a versatile performer with excellent stage performance skills. In addition to her classical vocal training she has vocal skills in musical theatre and pop music styles.
